Nutmeg

The seeds of the nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans), an indigenous evergreen tree to Indonesia, are used to make the spice nutmeg, as well as the spice mace. Mace is the red, lace-like substance that covers the nutmeg seed, and nutmeg is the inner seed. The taste and aroma of nutmeg are both warm and slightly sweet. In addition to eggnog, it is used to flavor a variety of baked goods, sweets, puddings, potatoes, meats, sausages, sauces, and vegetables.
