White rice known as basmati is typically grown in the Himalayas, India, and Pakistan, with India producing about two-thirds of the world's supply (pronounced baz-MAH-tee). It is a long-grain rice that is well-known for its rice pilaf and as a side dish for curries. It has a mild nutty flavor and floral aroma.
Usually, there are two colors of basmati rice: white and brown. Although brown basmati rice can be found in many health food stores, white basmati rice is more widely available. In addition to being higher in fiber, brown rice has a firmer texture and a nuttier, more potent flavor. Additionally, it takes longer to cook than white rice.
