The cereal grain known as rice is a common staple food throughout much of the world. It is the seed of the grass Oryza sativa, also known as Asian rice or, less frequently, O. glaberrima, also known as African rice. Sushi, risotto, and paella are just a few of the dishes that can use rice as an ingredient. It also contains healthy carbohydrates and essential vitamins and minerals like thiamine, niacin, and vitamin B6.
